Being a teacher, one is responsible for his or her own classroom. You are held accountable for making the decision that best fit your students and your classroom. The daily decisions that one makes will be reflected in their classroom. This is why these decisions are so important. As a future teacher it is important to have a decision making process. I plan to make decisions by looking at all the possible outcomes and their consequences. You must take into account all of your students, and look at cause and effects of each situation. These decisions need to be constant and professional. They cannot be all over the place and random. Your decisions for your classroom should match up with your teaching philosophy. It is also important to take advice from scholarly websites and experienced teachers. The document below is a “what if” situation of possible student difficulties in a class. This shows the decisions that I made from these situations with the students. I took into account their situations and made decisions made on what I thought the best outcome would be for them in order to advance in their learning. This is a great example of professional decision making and how I would perform in certain scenarios.
Cipher Needs
I have two cipher students Jeremy and Corbin. Jeremy is an 8 year old who also has a twin brother, Josh, in the class. Jeremy’s home life is not great due to his parents violent disputes, due to this Jeremy has anger issues and doesn’t control his anger well. His mother has left the abusive home and his father is not allowed to be in contact with Jeremy. Jeremy does loving playing football and tends to be bored in class. Corbin is a 9 year old. His family situation is very tough on him due to the fact that he lives with his stepmom and dad who are very strict on him. Corbin has not seen his mom in many years. He has trouble pay attention in class and may have run away. His writing contains information about Corbin wanting to see his mom again. Corbin is also afraid of his Dad right now because he scored lower on his ARMT test at school.
At this point I have decided to use two different technology tools in my integrated lesson plan. I found a lesson plan online outside of class that I am using. This lesson plan deals with writing a story about oneself that is used in a 2nd grade classroom. It deals with discussing who, what, when, where, and why of a story. With the information I have learned in this class so far from my tool masteries I can implement the wordle that I created to go along with this lesson plan. I also picked the tool story bird as another type of technology to implement into the lesson in order for the students to write their own stories.
I feel that the tool storybird will be a great tool for Jeremy and Corbin to succeed in class. This will allow them both practice with writing and keep them involved in the lesson. The practice with writing is very important for Corbin because his scores were low on his ARMT. With writing a story of his own, I can acknowledge what the struggles may be with the topic and discover what the problem may have been that resulted in lower scores. Writing their own story is also great for both of the boys in order to understand more about what their struggles are and how to help them in the future. Keeping them involved is implemented for Jeremy since he tends to get bored during class. The idea with him creating his own story and interacting with the lesson is to hopefully eliminate his boredom and keep him more engaged in class. I also choose this tool because there is no way that it could be taken competitively in any type of way so that Jeremy’s anger will not be involved in this lesson. I plan to keep both students involved and engaged in order to increase their learning as much as possible.
